Top 5 Wednesday – Books I want to give a second chance

This is the first time I’m participating in Top 5 Wednesday (hosted on Goodreads), and of course this one is a Freebie. I’ve been wanting to write a post about books I want to give a second chance, so that will be my topic this week!

1. Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare
2. Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor
3. The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski

I own Clockwork Angel but have never really attempted to read it. I’ve picked it up and put it down several times. After reading and disliking City of Bones by Cassandra Clare, I just didn’t think the Shadowhunter world was for me. But since so many people love this world and its characters, I’m tempted to give it a second chance!

I read A Daughter of Smoke and Bone a few years ago because people were raving about Laini Taylor and this series. I finished it, even though I found it way too long and slow-paced. This is why I never picked up book 2.

The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski is another book I read when it first came out and really wanted to love. But I didn’t. I didn’t hate it though, so now after giving it some time, I want to revisit this world and see if I enjoy it more this time around.

4. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
5. Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs

I was gifted The Night Circus through a gift exchange by someone who thought I would love this book as it was one of their favourites. Everywhere I look, people are raving about this book. I was so excited, but I couldn’t get through the first few pages. I know, shameful. I will definitely give this book another try though simply because of how many people seem to adore this book.

I started and finished Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children and then somehow never picked up the second book. It wasn’t my favourite book but I remember really enjoying it nonetheless. When the third book came out, I felt like I was so far behind there was no point in catching up. But with the fourth book coming out soon, I think I’ll give it another shot.

let's chat

I personally think The Infernal Devices is so much better than The Mortal Instruments. It feels like a completely different world, and it also has the allure of being historical. Hope this helps you decide whether to return to Clockwork Angel!
Also, I loved The Winner’s Curse, but I definitely had to take my time getting into it. It’s a bit of a slow-burner, but it’s such a good series (in my opinion) that it’s worth persisting.
    Great post!! (:
